There's more to the name than you may think! Only one available, for immediate dispatch.
Originally created as a bespoke commision by a couple to celebrate the first of the Lake District 'Wainwrights' they climbed as a family with their children, I selected this piece to be featured as my 'Favourite' piece to present to my mentor on the BBC1 TV Show 'Make It At Market' as one of our creative challenges, due to what I felt it represented to myself and others.
A representation of the trigpoint that you find at the top of our local Wainwright here in Keswick, CatBells and the surrounding views, using the intricate and labour intensive method of Tiffany Copper Foiling.
CatBells is a truely unique "Wainwright" - one of 214 of the highest mountains found in the UK UNESCO national park I am lucky enough to live in. It is well visited, with multiple options of varying difficulty to reach the summit, but is still challenging and a great achievement to anyone, young, old, canine (!) who makes it to the top to see the amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding lakes and mountains, where you literally feel 'On Top of The World'.
In my time living here, I regularly hear CatBells as the mountain people use as their benchmark to returning to fitness, a goal they achieved to overcome advesity or a fear.
In my personal experience, it was the first climb to challenge my fear of heights after previously getting 'crag fast' on one of the scrambles before I moved to Cumbria, and after my long, slow, frsutrating rehabilitation following shoulder and ankle reconstructive surgery, I aimed for the sumit again and felt the hope easing back in.....
Then last year, after battling against bowel cancer so bravely, my wonderful sister-in-law had set herself the same challenge when she came to visit, and gave it her all to get there too. The tears of joy when she touched the 'trig' will be unforgettable. So for me, the name behind this piece is pretty all encompassing.
Please note, this was recreated for the show a one-off, stand alone piece and will not be recreated in the same pattern again. However, should you wish to have a bespoke commission made of CatBells, or any other fell that you hold dear memories of, please visit the bespoke commissions page of our site or contact me directly to discuss your vision.
